Pumpkins vs. Monsters - Android Market

Pumpkins vs. Monsters - Android Market

There is nothing I like better than a great game on my Android then a great game that is free and Pumpkins vs. Monsters is both great and free.

This app from RunnerGames Studios is a combination of bejeweled and Plants vs Zombies. The monsters are coming from the top of the screen down towards your line, you must stop them before they get there. Your arsenal is to combine three or more same colored pumpkins and then launch them bowling ball style at the enemy. You collect coins from the fallen dead and use the money to buy weapons that you can also use at will to destroy the monsters as well.

The game play is smooth with simple yet nice graphics although it doesn't have the humor of Plants it will definitely give you many hours of enjoyment.

Amazon.com: Peggle (WiFi Download Only): Appstore for Android

Amazon.com: Peggle (WiFi Download Only): Appstore for Android

This is a no brainer choice for me this week since I've enjoyed this game on both my PC and iPhone for ages. We finally have it on Android and its on sale via the Amazon Market for only $1.49 right now.

Peggle is from Pop Cap Games, they are the powerhouse game developer responsible for Plants VS. Zombies and have hundreds of games available to play online. Recently they began porting games to Android and saving us from the drought of wonderful games the iphone has had for years.

Peggle is a form of the old classic breakout games where you used a paddle to hit a ball coming down and destroying all of the bricks on the screen. This game takes that gameplay and enhances it with magic, cute characters and many other beautiful changes.

You will neverr tire of the game as each level is a change from the last and new and different items are added along your journet to becoming a Peggle master. There are so many versions of the game available online that i can only hope if you buy the game the developers can continue to add levels as time goes by and you will never worry about it becoming old.

So if your looking for a great game for your Android, look no further and urchase Peggle today!

The Weather Channel - Android Market

The Weather Channel - Android Market

What prompted me to write about the Weather Channel app was a story about another weather app called WeatherBug Elite. WeatherBug also has a free version but even the two versions put together have been installed on half as many Android devices as The Weather Channel. Why is The Weather Channel app so popular? My answer would be name recognition, we have all heard of or seen the Weather Channel on cable television at some point.

Why anyone would spend money for a weather App when these free ones are available along with a few others is beyond me. The only option available in the paid WeatherBug Elite I can find that the others don't have is the a live weather wallpaper. Personally I get my weather forecast from a widget called 3D Digital Weather Clock that gives a detailed forecast when you click on the weather portion of the widget. Tho these weather apps have widgets I find them very ugly and intrusive and they take up valuable real estate on your home screen. A clock and date widget with weather is much more sensible and attractive.

If your looking for every little detail including tides, severe weather alerts, Doppler radar and ten day forecasts then these weather only apps are for you. Both of them include widgets to display basic weather info on your home screen and when you click them they open up to reveal all of the weather information you could possibly want or need.

One thing to remember about these apps is they both reside on your phones internal memory and in order to be accurate they constantly update in the background using a lot of memory. If all you need or want is to see things like temperature, highs and lows, sunny or cloudy and even brief 3 day forecasts on your home screen then just get a widget. Use your computer at home to access the Weather Channel, they have a fantastic website that is very much worth checking out anyway. On the other hand if your a meteorologist, fisherman or space shuttle commander then by all means install The Weather Channel or WeatherBug.

Just to reiterate, these apps look great and have amazing amounts of information available when you open them on your phone. However if your just looking to have basic info displayed on your screen at all times via a widget you will do better with something else. Search the app markets for weather widgets, clock widgets or news and weather widgets, better to kill two birds with one stone anyway.

Just adding this because this app is something you might miss during your searches, its called Snowstorm Weather Widget. I find this to be the most beautifully animated weather widget in the market and its free as well. It has several options and various widget sizes as well as tons of customized skins to change the appearance of the animations. It also gives detailed weather info when clicked on, you could display this widget under or above a clock widget to create your own look.

This blog is called Android App of the Week and perhaps I come off not supporting the app in the title, however that is not the case. The Weather Channel is in my opinion the best weather application available for the Android and worthy of space on your device. My experience and personal tastes led me to use something different but it doesn't change the fact that this is the best weather app period.

Amazon.com: Plants vs. Zombies (WiFi Download Only): Appstore for Android

Amazon.com: Plants vs. Zombies (WiFi Download Only): Appstore for Android

My favorite time killer on the PC is now available only on the Amazon Appstore for Android, finally a game to tear us away from Angry Birds. Most of you know the drill but if you never played this game your in for some fun.

The zombies are coming and for some reason they are hell bent on getting through your backyard and into your home. You start out with several weapons to stop them by placing them in your yard, most fire automatically and a few are triggered by the player. As the levels progress you meet newer more dangerous zombies but you also gain bigger and badder weapons.

The game takes place on one screen, there is no scrolling. The zombies come from your right and you have to stop them before they reach the house. You grab coins that randomly drop from the sky and purchase and place weaponry as soon as you can pay for it. It takes some patience to wait for enough money to place a more expensive weapon when you can put up a cheaper one but sometimes that can make all the difference.

The zombies are really fun and cool looking and there are little biographies you can read about each weapon and different type of foe, some of the bios are hilarious. these developers certainly have a sense of humor. Its published by Popcap games and if you ever played games on the PC chances are you've played one of theirs. They are a powerhouse on the web and if they keep porting their work to Android then the Iphone users will have one less advantage over us.

I rarely purchase apps and when I do its only to get a game for my daughter that isn't free. Plants VS. Zombies is an easy decision and its on sale for $1.49 now at Amazon. Check out the cool music video they made about the game, its had over a million views on YouTube. Enjoy!
